The Nuclear Medicine Certification Program is the newest program being offered at South College. Upon
completion of this program, the Radiologic Technician will be a certified Nuclear Medicine Technician. The Nuclear
Medicine Student will obtain skills and the competency to perform tests that rely on the use of radioactive
tracers to diagnose disease. The use of Radioactive Isotopes is used to diagnose tumors, biliary disease, gastrointestinal
emptying and bleeding, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, red blood cell survival time, renal dysfunction, deep
vein thrombosis, thyroid function, osteomyelitis, fractures, and cardiac ejection fraction.
